What Can I do?

1- Act Personally

Write, call, or email the Mayor and City Commissioners http://www.ci.daytona-beach.fl.us to provide your opinions, either positive or negative on issues that interest or affect you.

Write, or email Letters to the Editor of the Daytona News-Journal or Orlando Sentinel. Post your opinions on open Forum sites such as http://www. RealDaytona. Com

Insist on the right of citizens to speak out at City Commission meetings and other forums.

Consider joining local political committees or forming your own. These groups can present unified views of citizens, provide, campaign contributions and information, essential to our democratic process.

2- Attend Public Meetings

See for yourself what goes on. Ask questions of the Commission and demand explanations regarding the use of your tax dollars. Bring your friends. A group of angry voters at a meeting will usually change or modify politician’s positions on the issues.

3- Register and Vote

In 2001, each Zone election was decided by less than 150 votes. You, your friends and families votes do matter and are critical in determining the course of your City! Convince everyone you know over eighteen to get registered and vote. If you can't physically make it to your polling place request an absentee ballot from the Volusia County Supervisor of Elections and mail in your vote.

4- Request Copies of Public Records

Use the Sunshine Law to request records such as travel reimbursement, cell phone invoices, copies of meeting minutes etc. Let our politicians know we're watching what they do, how they do it and who with.
